While attaining my coaching certification we did a vision exercise that was not only insightful but inspirational. We imagined jumping to some point in the future and we visualized meeting our ‘future self.” Jumping into a vision for the future is an act of faith and requires trusting the imagination and allowing it to take shape. I thought it would be fun to share this simple and creative exercise. So, let’s get busy…The timeframe for your vision can be two weeks, three months, or even ten years; It is totally up to you. Imagine yourself stepping into an elevator, the doors close and the elevator starts to move. This elevator is unique; it is your ticket to meet your “future-self.” Close your eyes as the elevator moves from floor to floor. Keep your mind engaged as you create a positive image of your “future-self.” Focus on the mental image of what the future will be like. When the elevator doors open you are ready to meet your “future-self.” This is your opportunity to discover how you achieved your plans and goals. You will have the opportunity to ask your “future-self” important questions like, how you made it to where you are. As you exit the elevator, be mindful of your surroundings. Are you in a familiar place or somewhere new? What does it look like? What are you wearing? What are you doing? Acknowledge how you feel about being there. Now is the time to talk to your “future-self.” Ask your “future-self”, What makes you happy? What steps did you take to get you to where you are? What worked? What didn’t work? Have a healthy conversation with your future self and remember to trust your imagination to work through the difficult questions. When your done speaking to your “future self”, get back in the elevator and return to the floor you started on. When the doors open back up, take all the information you learned from your “future self” and start making your vison a reality. “If you dream it, you can do it.” Walt Disney
